Written for this kinkme_merlin prompt: I'd like a story based on the Selection-Trilogy by Kiera Cass - I haven't read the books, just write your own story but based on this summary:
For thirty-five girls/boys, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Arthur.
But for Merlin Emrys, being Selected is a nightmare. Leaving his home to enter a fierce competition for a crown he doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
I'd just love to see Merlin being from a lower caste than most of the others and not liking Arthur at first and just being his usual self, before he starts to actually like the prince. I'm looking for a lot of snark and Arthur secretly liking Merlin's difficult personality.
There's a love triangle in the books, but I'm not really a fan of that, so I'd be very happy if it's left out of the story. Choose whatever reason you like to make Merlin actually enter the competition.

In between balancing his day job as a personal assistant to Arthur Pendragon--who happens to be the son of a man leading the crusade against magic--and jumping off rooftops by night as the Warlock, Merlin has to try to keep his dual identity intact and stop a twenty-year old vendetta from destroying everything he knows. This is far easier said than done.

Summary
Destinies are for werewolves, finding their soulmate and living happily ever after in a natural selection selected by fate.
When Merlin is attacked and turned into a werewolf, it turns his world upside down. His new neighbor and Lycantherapist, Arthur, isn't making anything easier - especially when Merlin is doing everything he can to ignore his Destiny: he wants to fall in love normally, not end up in fated relationship he had no say in. Not to mention, he's not gay and is definitely not going to take it up the arse.
(and when the season comes, if a certain neediness makes everything more haywire, then Merlin firmly believes its not his fault)
But gaining an Omega scent is the least of Merlin's worries. He first needs a full month to recover from being bitten, then find a pack to take him in (preferably not Arthur's, he's trying to avoid his Destiny). His new werewolf friendships with the Pendragon pack, however, lead him down a dark road where its tooth and claw to survive and protect the human rights Merlin still believes in. The enemy pack, including the one who attacked him, are going to test all their strengths, but they will go down fighting!

Arthur is the average golden-boy-super-jock-perfect-preppy-soccer-captain. He sees Merlin somewhere and instantly starts going out of his way, going to Merlin's store, reading his weird books and listening to his weird music just to impress him.
