Menolly has Impressed Blyth, Benden's youngest queen, and knows her place is in the Weyr. Even her good friend, Mirrim doesn't always understand how difficult that can be. Sometimes, she wonders how differently her life might have turned out if she'd been Searched by the Harper Hall instead---but at least she isn't at Half-Circle Sea Hold!

Notes
I really liked this story, as it was about a groundbreaking woman who tried to mentor the next generation, and ended up causing even more of a stir than she planned. It also was about breaking down a lot of the sex-specific stuff in the Pernese canon, which I'm glad to see broken down. (And there was some thought to how the different types of dragons work together and how riders work with their dragons that I really liked from a worldbuilding angle -- I'm used to stories on Bad RPers Suck about how only the bronzes and golds mattered, canon taken to an extreme, and pointing out that the blues and greens had their own roles to play was nice.)
Plus female friendship between Menolly and Mirrim, and Lessa being a leader, and the recognition that not everyone wants to be a dragonrider or a harper.
