I would also point out that this story is not going to be finished. I took it down from my LJ primarily because people were demanding it be finished, but I have recently been asked by people for copies of it so thought it simply easier to post it here.Also please note, I wrote this story some considerable time ago and I haven't read it in years. Nor have I gone back and amended any of it, so it is how it was when first posted on LJ and it may well be that there are grammatical errors.

This story is about war. Most of the events will be from John Sheppard's perspective. It is not a pretty story, nor is it light reading. There are battles fought, large and small, both won and lost. Men and women meet violent and gruesome deaths. Some victims may be unarmed civilians, noncombatants or children. A lot of the characters will use language, slang and racial slurs that may make some people uncomfortable. These remarks and comments are not intended to shock, nor do they represent my personal opinions. People do not tend to be politically correct when fighting for their lives in a war zone. Some of these characters will not act or react as they did in canon. There are those who adopt a cavalier attitude toward death, their own and that of others. The characters in this story are facing what seems to be a hopeless situation as best they can, with courage and determination.

Elizabeth stood and came around her desk, not running but only barely. She could see the stargate platform from the catwalk and when she looked down, she froze.
"Doctor Weir." Colonel Sumner was looking up at her, surrounded by Lieutenant Ford, Sergeant Markham, and a Pegasus native she didn't recognize. "Do you mind telling me what's going on?"
She took a deep breath so as to speak, but she was having a hard time finding the words. What did you say when the dead came back to life?

She didn't know what she'd done to deserve an assignment helping out the Americans, although it might have been a bad case of demonstrable competence. Nonetheless, she's assured that while the work will be outside her usual purview, she's more than qualified for the task.
They left out the part that explained that 'outside her usual purview' really meant 'not on Earth.'

Rodney was not an optimistic person by nature, but he couldn't do this. He couldn't sit there in John's quarters and imagine John never being there again, never being on Atlantis, anywhere, ever again. It was like his mind wouldn't even accept the possibility.
