Valley Forge. Hundreds of soldiers dying every day. Morale is low. America struggled to maintain hope during that delicate change between Colony and Nation, but every day that hope seemed dimmer and less substantial. Until finally typhoid took him and he disappeared from friendly eyes. Never to be heard of again.
The Gates family were shunned from the academic community because of their ridiculous conspiracy theory about the Founding Fathers and a National Treasure. Until Benjamin Gates, with the help computer geek Riley Poole, archivist Abigail Chase, and Ben's father Patrick Gates, discovered the theory wasn't a theory after all. But there's more to this national treasure then gold or knowledge. After all, a Nation is precious too.

After Clint back chats Steve a little too much, Steve forcibly puts Clint down into subspace, tell him that'll he'll damn well listen to what Steve says, tells him that if he's going to be on the team then he'll be on there under Steve's conditions, which includes one of the new high-tech StarkIndustry collars that can't be removed without a specific code - one that Steve's not telling Clint
Things got better during the seventy years Steve was frozen, but Steve, man out of time, stayed the same.

“Hey Cap, relax,” Clint urged, nudging him with a toe. Steve smiled tightly at him and went to staring back out the window. He felt the seat shift as Clint slid closer, despite Sitwell's aggravated, 'Put a damn seatbelt on, Barton.' Steve forgot sometimes about his, but no one seemed as concerned about the super soldier getting hurt in an accident. When they noticed they smiled patiently and said it was an honest mistake, no harm no foul, he had a lot to learn after all.
No one ever wanted to tell him exactly how much had changed though.
