Summary
Zeka and Ayo are old, old friends - they'd escaped together, because of one another, and they're a part of one another's lives for better or worse. Even if Zeka is far less stable and far more powerful than most, even if he makes most of their motley nervous, Ayo stands by him, keeps him sane by walking in his dreams and keeps an eye on him when they wake. For the one who set him free, he feels it's the least he can do.
One night, Zeka appears at Ayo's door with the promise of more Goblin Fruit's than any sane changeling could eat on their own. Any sane two changelings, even, although Zeka has never qualified as sane. But Ayo decides that humoring his friend for the promise of fresh dream-a-drupe could be worth his time, especially when their usual haunt had only recently been uncovered and claimed by one of their rivals from the motley.
Unfortunately, one doesn't always find what one wants to find in the Hedge, and there are creatures lurking there with deeper, darker hungers. Zeka manages to escape capture. Ayo isn't so lucky. Now it's just a matter of if Zeka can find him in the labyrinthine Hedge before his captor gets bored torturing him, and decides to call in the Gentry to reclaim their fugitive slave.
