Cronus is a troll providing negotiable affection for xenobiology fanciers, once fairly pricy, now fallen on hard times. They discuss socioeconomic injustice, among other things.
Then Cronus doesn't show up to work. And Dave's creepy boss is extra creepy. And Dave learns that weapons-grade pathos is not a thing reserved for Broadway musicals, after all.

On Alternia, it is totally acceptable to own a troll of a lower blood caste than yourself. That is to say, if you are several castes above said troll. Karkat Vantas may be the lowest of the low, but Sollux Captor is certainly no highblood. He isn't even a midblood. While staking his claim on the mutant-blood for his own protection was a nice enough thought on his part, it's also not a secret. And it probably really should have been.

Since you'd been raised in the twenty-first century, you feel that you've come across everything zombie apocalypse themed: movies, video games, books. Though they're in the zombie genre, that's not truly what they're about. Each highlights something different, whether it's where the line is drawn between the humans and the infected as survivors lose what humanity they have left, or the glory of zombie hunting, or the deep interpersonal relationships created during such times of hardship. None of them accurately portray what it's actually like: brutal, meaningless, and, above all else, sad. There are so many metaphors and special meanings that writers use, but honestly, it's just incredibly sad.
...Though spending all of your time with Fef is definitely a plus.
