Summary
The town of Beacon Hills generally avoids the old Hale Manor. It’s surrounded by a forest of tall trees, winds that can’t possibly be anything but supernatural, and a foreboding sense of doom. The townspeople like to tell their children stories about it, like to tell them that if they listen closely enough, they can hear the beast howling in the night, looking for prey.
Stiles would like to inform them, however, that he’s probably just howling because Finstock decided that spicy soup was the way to go and spicy for Finstock is “ow-you-fucking-teapot-are-you-trying-to-kill-me?!” for normal people (or normal beasts– semantics, semantics).

"Gooood, isn’t it?" says the incubus, dragging out that vowel to a length that is fucking indecent; the way it’s talking instead of doing fucking indecent things to Stiles with that mouth is fucking indecent, and if Stiles wasn’t next to sure the damn thing is reading his mind and knows perfectly damn well what it’s doing to him, he’d tell it that. Somehow.

After Jackson doesn't survive the Kanima, Lydia and Stiles are dating and Stiles is a starter on the lacrosse team. But all is not puppies and rainbows. Stiles has something to tell Lydia that she doesn't want to hear. Meanwhile, he finds a sigil in his textbook that seems to be causing strange dreams about him and Derek. And it all seems to be tied to a 100-year-old ballet. What he comes to find is that everything is connected much more closely than he realized.

Life after Scott's death wasn't what Stiles expected it to be. Sometimes during sleepless nights he'd imagined the various ways that Scott might die and how he'd handle it if something like that ever happened. Not because he wanted Scott to die, absolutely not, but because after his mom's death he kept expecting the people he cared about to be taken from him. This wasn't how he'd imagined that Scott would die, and he would never have imagined that afterwards he'd be part of the popular group at school. Don't even get him started about the return of Derek Hale to Beacon Hills. All in all, this wasn't how Stiles had expected things to go.

Stiles and Derek should be together, and in fact they would be if the two of them would stop it with their denial and just get on with it already. Lydia knows this. She sees the way the two of them react to each other - all bright and teasing, like they're more than content to just be within each other's presence, and that's enough to make them happy. But there's more to it than that, a longing gaze and clenched fists, like they want to reach out and touch but for some (stupid) reason they don't think they can. So Lydia's gonna ensure that her beloved best friend opens up his eyes and realizes that he can be even happier, if he'd just let himself. Same goes with the Alpha. She'd see it happen before they graduated from Berkeley, and that was just a fact.
