Summary
As the story goes, Odin, in the days when the worlds were new, used his knowledge of runes to give a gift to the nine worlds. Through Odin's gift, any being with a soul on the nine worlds could find the one match of their soul, their perfect pair, bound to them by the World Tree itself. Each of the nine races received Odin's gift in a different form; yet all beings with souls received that gift in some way.
Why, then, Loki wonders, is he so far into adulthood, and yet unmarked?
(Or: In a world where everything with a soul receives a mark linking them to their soulmate, Loki reaches adulthood with no sign of the rune that all Aesir use to find their soulmates. Without any better explanation, Loki is convinced he's a monster long before he learns of his Jotunn heritage.)

Late one evening Tony receives a very unexpected visitor.
“Jarvis already sent out a signal, I managed to hit the button once. Even if you kill me they’ll know.” He said holding his wrist and backing up a bit as the shadow advanced upon him. The intruder laughed; the low lazy sound made something in Stark’s stomach clinch and a shiver of dread run up his spine. He found himself just a step away from the bar, now standing in the light which poured into the newly remodelled living room from the city. The shadow hesitated for a moment before stepping into the bright pale blue and yellow beams so Tony could see him clearly.
