Summary
For the 1stclass_kinkmeme, in response to a prompt asking for "the one where everyone is homo sapiens," a second person POV with a few words spanning decades. Charles meets Erik under suitably dramatic conditions, and the life that follows is perhaps--in comparison to a life as a superhero (or villain)--a quiet one. But as with any life, it isn't without moments of bravery, and weakness, and loss. Gratuitous use of Margaret Atwood's poetry is involved.

Summary
"Why don't you just tell me why Hank thinks I run a book club on the first Monday evening of the month, and why he's offered to bring artichoke dip, which sounds awesome by the way, to the next meeting?”
Nick closed his eyes, and when he spoke his voice was a rush of words. “Because it was better than him thinking we were having sex?”
Monroe had always wanted to belong to a Book Club, but he'd never imagined it would be to help out Nick.

Sometimes, in every life, there's a moment that changes everything. That defines you. One glance. One touch. One split-second decision. One breath, in and out and gone. And suddenly everything is different.
(This is a not a story of a life of a man. This is not a story of lives of many people whose paths have crossed. These are just moments that cannot be forgotten.
Especially if they should.)
