29/5/12 To my horror, due to a mixture of interface fragility and my error, this fic got deleted after it had attracted 118 comments, 281 kudos and almost 14k hits. I will be reposting the fic over the next few days, like a WIP. If you have previously kudosed/commented and can take the time to do so again now, I would appreciate it a lot. And rereading this fic might not be too much of a hardship, judging by how enthusiastic some people have been about it!

I like fennishjournal's mini-review better than I like my own original summary, so here it is: 'John and Sherlock are broken but their jagged edges fit together in a way that is almost painfully right. This is intense and powerful and desperate. There is a scene where John tops the fuck out of Sherlock and, dear God, is it ever intense.'There's BDSM in the mix, so that needs to go in the headers, but it's not the main focus of the fic. It's a relationship study, in which sex is a significant element but far from being the sole theme. It's about needing something right down to the bottom of your soul, and perhaps eventually getting it.

Sherlock doesn’t see how this is relevant to either their latest case, which John is currently making a complete hash of writing about, or to Sherlock’s very important experiments about fungal decay, so he merely raises an eyebrow. John looks slightly embarrassed.
“Just thought I’d point it out,” he mumbles. “I wasn’t expecting a bloody bouquet of roses or anything.”
“Good,” says Sherlock. Neither of them says anything else for a few moments, and Sherlock turns to check on the progress of his fungus.'
Or, in which Sherlock realises he has missed an important anniversary and attempts to subtly find out how to rectify the situation. Situations are rectified. Shameless fluff.
