Sheldon Cooper is crazy, but also kind of made of awesomeness. Or at least that's how Howard puts it. Penny thinks there's a possibility he's made of sexy, and really, the world must be ending if she has to suppress wayward urges to kiss him.
Sheldon, however, would explain it a different way: "Apocalypse Week is a series of training exercises, skirmishes, and aptitude tests based on survival simulations for various apocalyptical events. It serves to debunk a number of myths perpetrated by Hollywood and popular culture and to ensure personal survival scenarios are reliable and well-practiced."

She could have told people her brother was a government agent; the non-disclosure agreement she signed years ago never said anything about keeping that part of his life quiet. But Penny Coulson is a little sister, and she's always enjoyed making Phil's life harder than necessary, so she started telling folks that he was a drug dealer.
Funny how that might have actually worked out for the best.

Life as a new FBI recruit is nothing like Penny expected, but it's better than sitting around waiting for Kurt to grow up. Until she gets pulled out of training a few weeks early, that is. On the plus side: no more pre-dawn obstacle course runs; but partnering with the Bureau's resident crackpot? This is so not what she signed up for. She's ready to toss her shiny new (provisional) badge in the Potomac, until Agent Cooper gives her a look at the first case they'll be investigating - something the Bureau hasn't seen in almost fifty years.

Penny is still a failed actress who works as a waitress, and Sheldon is still a stand-offish theoretical physicist, but nearly everything else is different. Their lives have been changed by the war, and there is also a murder to solve. At times depressing, at others more jovial.

Summary
When I was eighteen years old, I made a decision. I was not going to live the same life that my sister was living, or that my mother had been living, or even my Gran. So, after one semester of community college, I decided that Omaha just wasn't going to cut it for me. I packed my clothes, took the remaining money I had from graduation, got into my shitty red Volkswagen and left Nebraska for good.
Penny knows what she wants in life. At least, she used to. Howard and Bernadette's wedding sets off a series of events which will change her life forever. Plans change and Penny will have to learn the hard way how to adapt.
