This was one of my earliest fanfic favorites. I still enjoy it, despite its flaws. To my mind, it feels like light reading - also, it's pretty much gen, and in X-files land, that's hard to find!

The Rift takes Ianto and spits him out on a strange planet, in the future, among soldiers -- and, most offputtingly, Jack is one of them.
I especially love this story's slow reveal of the planet Ianto finds himself on and the characters that he is surrounded by. The situation is set up well, the atmosphere is alternately gritty and wonderful (where appropriate), and Ianto's role in his new setting is believable.
