Summary
Thomas Raith has a brother. (Note: Contains potentially disturbing moments that don't fit under any of the Archive Warnings. They're far less disturbing than what can be found in the books, but just wanted to put that out there.)
While this story generally doesn't spoil anything past Blood Rites, I do make reference to an event from the short story "It's My Birthday Too" in the last chapter. It shouldn't affect your enjoyment if you haven't read it, though.

Summary
Justine turns in her sleep when the monster runs his hand along her face, his dark mottled skin rough from the elements. His hand slips down to her breast then, hesitating over the rhythm of it. Mechanical, almost like a clock or any number of man-made devices.

“What?” He asked, sounding even to his own ears, childish and immature.
“You shouldn’t have done that to Carl.”
“He started it.”
“That doesn’t matter. He’s scared and confused and you’re cleverer than him. I think you need to decide whether you want to be a super hero or a super villain,” Justine told him.
Marcus hesitated, it was always hard to tell with Justine, but he had the sense that this might be an “Important” question. It was probably safer to hedge his bets. “Which are you going to be?”
She shook her head sadly. “I can’t tell you until I know what side you’re on.”

Summary
Post-apocalyptic Chicago: Harry Dresden, the itinerant Winter Knight, is contacted by the errant Sheriff Karrin Murphy. Something is brutally murdering people in Wisconsin, and the local militia is driving off anyone who tries to check it out. It's up to Harry to root out the threat-- and figure out where his loyalties lie, between the Faerie Court he sold himself to, and the people he's always tried to save.
Written for the 2010/2011 round of the Apocabigbang. Spoilers through to Changes.
