Modern day AU. Cullen is a former Templar turned police lieutenant working in Kirkwall's missing persons department. He's taken by surprise when a Grey Warden shows up to ask about one of his cold cases. Because the Grey Wardens are an international agency dedicated to solving magic-related crimes, and there's no evidence that Ninette de Carrac's disappearance had anything to do with magic. Is there?
Bethany isn't thrilled to be back in Kirkwall, but she has a job to do. The fact that the local cop is also a former Templar makes that job more difficult, but once they discover that Ninette might be connected to a missing mage, she and Cullen agree to work together until they get to the bottom of the mystery.
There's more to this case than meets the eye, and Cullen and Bethany both have their own personal demons to contend with as they work the case. But when their case brings them face-to-face with a demon, they discover that they may be a better combination than either of them originally thought.

My work-in-progress centered around my favorite non-companion NPC from Dragon Age, Jethann. Tagged rape/non-con because of prostitution, which is a grey area especially when you're doing it for the reasons that Jeth is.
There's just something about that world-wise elf that gets me- the mix of 'saucy minx' with 'hardened reprobate,' adding in 'genuinely heartbroken' at Ninette's death.

Hawke is a charming/diplo mix with a tendency to use whatever she needs to get her way. Wesley is deeply unhappy in Kirkwall, not only missing Aveline but feeling alienated within the Order.

In the DA2 quest Enemies Among Us, Macha hired Hawke to find out what had happened to her missing Templar brother.
When she learns about the involvement of some of the staff at the Blooming Rose, she summons her courage to confront those she holds responsible for nearly destroying her brother's life. Little does she realise that Hawke has already dealt with the perpetrators, leaving it up to a certain redheaded elf to send her on her way.
A birthday present for my very dear katiebour, which works well as a stand alone (but I swear there's a second chapter coming one day!)
