It’s Christmastime at Totleigh Towers, and Madeline’s heart is set on an extravagant upstairs-downstairs Yuletide verse exchange—and on a certain affable young man. But Bertie’s more worried about making sure his favorite person gets the poem he deserves…

I imagine that Bertie, an orphan with horrifying aunts, might appreciate the way Jeeves makes a home for him.

Chibideath has generously set no parameters for this story, other than that it include both Jeeves and Bertie. I’ve written mild slash, which I hope is alright.

    Thanks to Special_Trille for betaing.

'“Good evening, Mr Wallace.” Came Jeeves’ cordial and very correct reply. I rather expected that to be the end of it, and I was hoping it too. I didn’t fancy appearing from a tree with Wallace hanging about. It engenders too many questions. “What were you doing up that tree?” being one of them.'

For once it is Bertie who is in the know when it comes to a delicate tidbit of personal information. Now he perfectly understands the phrase 'ignorance is bliss'...

They decriminalized it today, Jeeves—not that you don’t know that already. I know the dead aren’t supposed to have a jot of knowledge about the world below, but I can’t imagine that goes for you: in fine print of every King James, I’ve no doubt, if closely examined, it says “except for Jeeves.”

Bertie Wooster gets the idea to keep a diary of unsent letters addressed to Jeeves as a way to let out his feelings. You see, he's been feeling the more tender emotions for his valet for many months now, and needed a way to release everything he's kept bottled up inside. He never intended for Jeeves to read them, but accidents happen...

    Summary

Certainly Jeeves doesn't ask for very much time off. Ever since the time he returned from an afternoon with his aunt (yes, he voluntarily spends time with an aunt!) to find the absolute cock-up I'd made of a poached egg and toast for tea, I think he may be somewhat reluctant to abandon the fort, to tell you the truth. Sometimes I have to positively order him to take a spot of rest and relaxation, for his own good. So it was on this particular morning, when I thought I detected the slightest hint of a droop in his starch. "Jeeves," I asked from the comfort of my bed, "how long has it been since you took a day off?"
