The Joker has Jason Todd, and nearly kills him. In fact, he thinks that he does kill him. In reality, he just came lethally close, and Jason may never be the same.
But the Joker has never played with any of Batman's little birds before, and its rare that anyone he plays with survives...
When he finds out that his victim is alive and perhaps not even entirely sane, the game just gets too good for the Joker to resist.
