Dirk's nights are awoken with shaky dreams of his older brother, finding it almost impossible to continue living in the riptide of society. A surprise visit from his long-distance friend Jane, who also brings along yet another unexpected guest, a British boy named Jake who claims he is living with her. Although Roxy, Dirk's friend who lives in Texas with him, adores Jake's sense of humor and willingness to take things to extreme, Dirk does not. After a brief episode of fighting, Dirk and Jake become complete opposites, only Jake does not feel that he's angry with Dirk. Instead, Jake admits he is astonished by Dirk's unusual eye color. Only then they become good friends while Jane's visit, laughing and joking about their own made up inside jokes. Dirk realizes his time is running out before both Jane and Jake make their way back to Washington and knows he needs to act fast before he misses his one chance for an actual life.
