Year 2078, United States of America. The U.S. was the leading country in space exploration and research. Hundreds of planets, inside and outside the solar system had been discovered, explored, and even a few had been colonized. The bursting population of Earth demanded outward expansion, and people were encouraged to embrace space travel from a young age.
It had, over the past 15 or so years, become somewhat common in the United States for young people to go off-planet in the summer between their sophomore and junior years of high school. Space Exploration And Research Educational Deployment, or SEARED, was a government run program, facilitating travel, accommodation, and safety for the young astronauts.
The 8 kids from homestuck attend high school together, not all of them friends, some complete strangers to one another. They eventually end up coming together to travel to Alternia through the SEARED program.

Even when you were at home with Dirk, you could see that he was dumbing things down for you. He would change the channel from the news or Discovery to a channel that played movies or whatever you could both enjoy without you needing to ask him about the content. He would read when you were gone or busy, or say, “It’s just robot stuff, nothing you’d like.” when we would work on his robots, and it bothered you. It bothered you that even though you wanted to, you couldn’t understand.
It bothered you how easily he beat you when you wrestled. That was supposed to be your forté, but you always lost. You were frustrated that you couldn’t beat him and upset that you were boring him. You loved him. He fit. Sure, you had a tough time a long while ago, but you’d learned from it and your relationship was marvellous afterwards. Now, however, there was the issue of your inadequacy. -

Homestuck/Apocalypse AU. On an Alternia inhabited by trolls and humans, it was prophesied years ago that when the birth of the Son of the Messiah came to be, the world had only five sweeps remaining until the end. A baby boy is found on the steps of the MatriChurch, and is given the name Karkat Vantas--while a necklace of the Signless is found around his neck. The sign of the Messiah. Hidden away by his surrogate mother-sister Kanaya and her fellow Sisters, it is hoped that the prophecy won't come true--but when meteors are sighted on his fourteenth birthday, and demons and angels come a-knocking, the end seems to be coming, and there are two fates ahead of Karkat: kidnapped by the demons, who use his power to burn the world, or kidnapped by the angels, who use his power to 'cleanse' the world. As a last ditch effort, Kanaya elicits the Seer of Light's help, whose cousin is the Knight of Time--a Knight who will be paid handsomely if he can safely escort Karkat to the mysterious Altar of Blood on the other side of the planet, perhaps the only possible third option that will stop The End.
