    Irish medic Merlin Emrys hadn’t enlisted in the British army thinking that he was going to find RAF pilot Arthur Pendragon. He hadn’t thought he was going to fall in love with the troubled soldier, who was no more ready for war than a baby lion. And never, never had he even considered that he might get his heart broken by a folded uniform on a hospital cot on June 6, 1944 in Normandy after a German bullet left his knight’s body lifeless. He’d been ready to come back home filled to the bones with fear and trauma. He hadn’t been ready to come back empty.
