Better than polar bears and Toblerones (even the white ones) and Christmas in Hawaii. Better than Snoopadoop shaking doggie bathwater all over Mum, and Herc laughing behind the closed door of Mum’s bedroom when Arthur wasn’t supposed to know he was there. Better than G-ERTI leaping up into the open sky and coming to ground again. Better than daffodils showing their bright spring faces in the garden. Better than Douglas saving the squishy cheese from the cheese tray for him after winning it off Skip. Better than that really good Assam tea, the kind that Mum called “orgasmic.” Better than warm, dry socks after a long walk in the cold rain. Better than everything.
