Summary
After her parents die in a tragic car accident Katniss moves from the only home she has ever known to live with her Grandma Sae in district 10. Shortly after moving she meets and befriends Gale Hawthorne. One summer Gale introduces her to his best friend Peeta Mellark.The Mellarks are a wealthy family who only spend the summers in district 10, where Mr. Mellark was born and raised. Peeta and Katniss are instantly drawn to each other and spend 1 magical summer together. At the end before returning to District 1 Peeta declares his love for Katniss and swears he will write and call her everyday. As the months go by with no calls or letters Katniss begins to loose faith and when the Mellark's fail to return the following summer Katniss knows Peeta has moved on and forgotten her. What will she do when circumstances require the Mellarks to return permanently almost 2 years later? Will she confront Peeta on why he never answered her letters or will she just try to avoid him as if their summer of love never even happened? And what will she do when she discovers Gale's feelings are not the same as her own when it comes to their relationship?

“Where will you be going now?” he asked, and only Peeta could hear the undercurrent of excitement that laced the question. There it is, he thought wearily. Even the man who knows my deepest, darkest secrets expects me to go running back to District 12. To her.
“You know,” he said thoughtfully, “I think I'm just going to travel for a bit.”
He could almost hear the doctor’s heart breaking over the sound of his own.

Peeta Mellark won the first ever Panem Idol reality show at the age of 15, 7 years later he has formed a fledgling record label with his best friend, fellow Panem Idol Contestant and runner up, Finnick Odair as well as his musical mentor Haymitch Abernathy. So far they have had no luck finding any talent to sign but Haymitch has come up with a questionable plan to remedy this that will reunite Peeta with the girl he long ago gave up hope on ever having anything more than a passing crush.
More modern AU setting but Panem still has districts and all that comes with that.

They try to navigate their way through friendship and other conflicts. I drew upon the imaginary divisional lines between the Seam inhabitants and the Merchants that Suzanne Collins herself used in the series. Katniss and Peeta are two people who are up against conventional rules regarding who's allowed to love whom, still star-crossed but in a different way. Thanks in advance for reading.
