    Following her escape from the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, Chell enters a world ruled by the Combine, meets new allies and enemies, and learns that sometimes it's not enough just to escape. (AU in that it ignores the new patch, the new ending, and any word of Portal 2.)

    Chell from Portal in the Half-Life 2 setting. This works great as an AU because Chell is very much shaped by the storyline she's come from -- she remembers nothing outside Aperture Science, and the way she doesn't remember captures the eeriness of that setting very well -- and so while the fic has the feel and shape and enemies and plot drive of a Half-Life game, that side of the fusion of worlds doesn't dominate the fic.
