Summary
snippets from a verse where magic is legal (Uther accepted that Ygraine died of childbirth, not magic shenanigans) and Merlin's a girl. Grew up in Camelot, and given Balinor's status at court, was Morgana's playmate, then became her lady-in-waiting. And due to a really regrettable incident where she saved Arthur's life, is now the prat's bodyguard.
They're not in any particular order and I don't have a coherent plot yet, so... snippets. I'll mark the ones that get a bit more plot-ish.

Nights in Ismere are freezing cold. Desperate to keep Arthur alive, Merlin is willing to do anything, and Ragnor, their captor, takes advantage. The cold rises like a wall between Arthur and Merlin, at the worst possible time, because the Battle of Camlann is coming. Merlin and Arthur are perfectly happy, until tragedy strikes. As Merlin retreats into himself, Arthur is faced with the fear that he won't be able to save his boyfriend from his own mind. But the heart can weather the storms if it tries, and Arthur will try if it's the last thing he does.
