Bookmarker's Notes
One of the fascinating things authors can't help but want to explore with Jono, and which usually extends to other characters as well, is the nature of his powers. How could you resist wanting to sneak a peak, figure out how he works and if the fire that isn't really fire actually burns or not? This beautiful little ficlet is not that kind. Rather, it turns the usual situation on its head and turns Jono into the nosy one who's intrigued by someone else's powers. Angelo's powers, in this case. It's short but poignant and hits all the right notes in very few words, much like the boys' relationship itself, in whatever form it happens to take.

Bookmarker's Notes
"Sometimes Angelo will sit in the middle of the floor and go through Jono's CDs, tossing the jewel cases carelessly onto piles of discarded clothing and declaring, 'Crap. Crap. Angsty crap. Whiny crap. Jesu Christi, Jono, don't you listen to anything good?'" Like I need to tell you how incredibly spot-on the characterizations are or how entertaining the plot is. It's primarily a slice of life ficlet, but I really like that while it acknowledges Jono's angstier-than-thou personality, it doesn't fall into the trap many authors (myself included) often make by reducing Jono to *just* that Eeyore-like caricature. You won't mistake him for the cheeriest guy in the world, not by a long shot, but Angelo brings out the playful side of him and lets him feel like a relatively normal teenager, just for a little while.
