Summary
On his way to Camelot, Merlin meets the Lady of the Lake.
Written for this KMM prompt:
Freya/Merlin
"She rose before him like the ice before the Spring
And was a queen.
And their touch was like a lover's,
Clear and sweet, drenching and unfolding
With no need for air or sunlight in the deep.
And in the passions that they bared
In pledges won and secrets shared
They'd stand together in what destiny would bring
And crown a king."(lyrics from "Lady of the Lake" by Heather Dale)

Summary
This was originally written for the following prompt on kinkme_merlin
Merlin has been hopelessly in love with his best friend Arthur for as long as he could remember, but so far Arthur has been dating only girls.
Then one day Merlin meets Freya - a sick girl who has only a few months to live. She asks Merlin to marry her and help her be happy for the rest of her short life. Merlin agrees, and he grows to love Freya in his own way.
Arthur, however, isn't ready or willing to let Merlin go, and the threat of Merlin suddenly being out of reach forces him to confront some feelings he has successfully ignored so far.

Summary
She knows, distantly, that it’s been over half a millennium, not just a few years, since they last saw Merlin. It’s only been a few years for her, though (and for Arthur), short enough that grief sometimes still startles her, long enough that she clutches her memories to her like rags against a blizzard, dreading the day when they wear through completely.

Freya knew it had been too much to ask of him, that first night they did this, to try it this way. She wanted, but didn't wish to impose this on him. Yet Merlin had listened and he had trusted her. (See work for content notes).

Summary
Here they have time, though; here they have nothing but time, and they’ve used it frequently—but never, Merlin thinks, quite as well as they could. Well. That can be corrected.
Freya’s mouth tastes fresh like lake water, wild like magic. Neither of them are quite human any more; she’s something like a goddess, a force of nature, and he’s—what?—Arthur’s, and Albion’s, and hers. He doesn’t know what that makes him and he doesn’t care, because when she settles into his arms she’s warm and solid, and what was and what will be can fade from his mind.
