Dave Lister, 22 and drunk ends up stealing a Starbug from a JMC ship hold in Liverpool and ends up not at the nearest Denny's but in the psychedelic world of Smeg. Based loosely on that wonderful 1939 film the Wizard of Oz read about Lister's adventure along a yellow brick road. Will the Wizard of Smeg help him fix the stolen Starbug?
Written to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Red Dwarf! xD Dedicated to everyone that made Red Dwarf what it is today, the writers, producers, cast crew and all of the fans! If you've come here and you don't know what this is, let me tell you right now: it's an epic. With a chapter for every letter of the alphabet, much blood, sweat and tears have gone into this (well, I nearly cried when I got to X and couldn't think of a title...). In here we have both slash and het pairings: Lister/Rimmer, Lister/Kochanski, Cat/Kill Crazy, Cat/other, Kochanski/other, and possibly more that I've forgotten.
The basic hypothesis of this series is the question, 'What if Lister and Rimmer 'turned' in jail?'. The first chapter I wrote was 'Impossible Dreams' after reading Yuchtar's 'What The Smeg?' I wanted more Rimmer/Lister stuff, but was having trouble finding it. So I decided to do it myself, even after I found out that slash writers get flamed to bits (hi JB!) on FF.N.
Some chapters of this story contain m/m slash. Some contain f/f slash. Others contain m/f explicitly sexual scenes. Though this content is not in all chapters, this story is still rated R. So any of you slash-haters still here, leave now. This is not your scene. Those of you still with me, enjoy. Refreshments will be provided as soon as I have some flames to toast the marshmallows.

This is a long explanation, so be prepared. Okay, this story is set in an alternate universe where Rimmer never left to become Ace (hence, the events of 'Stoke Me A Clipper' never occurred, and most of 'Blue', although Lister still has a kissing dream, because I said so). Kochanski still joined the Starbug team (though that's mostly irrelevant), and the gang still discovered Red Dwarf in Lister's laundry basket (except in the Rimmer-there version, he comments 'I'm surprised the stench didn't kill them!'). But when Kryten persuades the nanos to rebuild Red Dwarf, a conflict arises... Rimmer is a hologram, but George McIntyre is still on board Red Dwarf, and he's not prepared to give up his hologrammatic position for anyone... Oh, and I've made my standard AU alteration of Holly to female. Hey, if I want Holly to be female, she's female, dammit! Also, because it's holo-Rimmer and not real-Rimmer, there is no jail sentence, so everyone's in their usual quarters.
