Summary: I like fennishjournal's mini-review better than I like my own original summary, so here it is: 'John and Sherlock are broken but their jagged edges fit together in a way that is almost painfully right. This is intense and powerful and desperate. There is a scene where John tops the fuck out of Sherlock and, dear God, is it ever intense.'
There's BDSM in the mix, but it's not the main focus of the fic. It's a relationship study, in which sex is a significant element but far from being the sole theme. PoL is about needing something right down to the bottom of your soul, and perhaps eventually getting it.

A human dominant over a mutant sub is almost unheard of. No one expected a human Erik Lehnsherr to be the dom of a Omega-level telepath. Erik is convinced it's a mistake, Charles is convinced it's perfect.
Moira tries to support her husbands new found connection, and Raven tries to protect Charles and keep him from giving too much of himself.

He had been following Xavier's career for years. He had read and reread and reread again everything the man had written. He had tried, on more occasions than he could count, to recruit Xavier into the Brotherhood, but each request for a meeting had been denied. Aside from his work, no one knew anything about Xavier. Not what he looked like, not the full extent of his power--though from what little they did know, he was by far the most powerful telepath in existence--and not what his intentions were.
The man was a recluse. As far as Magneto knew, Xavier had never once stepped foot outside his impenetrable Westchester manor. And now he was scheduled as the keynote speaker for the largest pro-mutant conference in the world.

Even if this was legal, even if there was nothing technically wrong with what he was doing he knew that if he were caught, or if he were seen by someone he knew, or if he were found out in any way the shame would never, ever die. What would his regiment say? What would his family say? What would anyone say if they discovered that John was currently in a cab on the way to pick up a male prostitute for the evening?
