I'm not able to sum up why I love this; I think it's the atmosphere and the relationship between Braska and Auron.

Notes
This is a striking piece of work featuring Auron, Braska and Jecht and an encounter with an Unsent. FFX had such great atmosphere, and Ira exploits it in every possible way here, using the relationship between the men and their conflicting positions as well as the weather to dig into the feeling of hopelessness. The setting allowed the story to play into the idea of being Unsent; the feel of the entire story was an aching, empty coldness, whether it was the real cold or the chilly thought of the future that is bearing down on them, and Braska, at the center as always, warm and comforting with his fire gems.
-
Summary
Why did a new cave and a mysterious door suddenly appear in FFX-2? Aha! It's Catherine's fault!
This story is comprehensible even if you're familiar with only one fandom, since the two "mages" are each unfamiliar with the other's world.
