A fetish piece that makes me grin like a fool. Read this when life's getting you down.

Millicent, I have always felt, is one of those characters that neither Rowling nor most fic authors pay enough attention. This fic makes up for it a thousandfold. It's lovely and heartbreaking and made me sigh dreamy sighs. I'm not usually one for romance, but this one hit home.

If anyone ventures to ask me why fanfiction is so wonderful a thing, I will point them to this fic and it will answer for me.
I'm a sucker for perfectly executed backstory, and this fic has it. Jerome's history is believable and relatable, and his apathy is something, I'm sure, every person has tasted in their time. The recurring themes and repetition of structure in this work are poignant and striking, and there are not enough lovely things to say about it.

This is an excellent piece: delightful, wry and true to the original work. Everyone is spot-on. On the whole, this fic is a joy to read and I will continue adoring it long after my nth rereading.

Summary
An AU exploring what might have happened had Eugene not killed Lensky in their duel, with activities including but not limited to washing each others' hair, sneaking away from their own parties, and eating lots of jam, as I have been led to believe everyone in Russia did in the early 1800s. Eugene-centric.

Until finding this archive, I felt like I was the only person in Onegin fandom, or rather that no proper fandom existed for it at all. This story proved me wrong. It's vibrantly descriptive, and its fleeting hints of the absurd amid the poignant are sharply reminiscent of Pushkin's work.
I adore the characterisation and tone, as well as the fact that Onegin's personality shines through as was described in the canonical first chapter (whereas Pushkin himself, a devotee of contradiction, changes Onegin in great and often illogical bounds as canon progresses).
The prose is almost poetry in its eloquence--which, of course, is appropriately consistent with the original--and the unresolved ending is perfect in its incompleteness. I would recommend this fic to anyone, and may even use it as an introduction to the canonical tale for those of my acquaintances who feel they cannot relate to Russian literature. Good show!
