The boat rocks and she sways, brushing against hard plate. She feels pressure on the small of her back, briefly, and knows it’s his hand steadying her. She’d have to turn to talk to him, and then it would be real intimacy, and not the intimacy of convenience, so she stays where she is, feeling the bay roll under the boat as they sway together.
