Post Battle of the Five Armies. Some years after.
After an unexpected visit from Gandalf, Bilbo can be swayed to leave the Shire behind and visit his friends in the Lonely Mountain. Upon arrival, he realises that even though the goblins are defeated, Erebor is far from peace, and the battle is not yet won. The Lonely Mountain is at civil war, and in addition to that the relationship with the Wood-Elves is still tense. Good thing Bilbo decided to come all the way to Erebor, and just in time too. After all, where would Thorin be without his skilled little burglar?

Will Thorin return to sanity, or will Kili have to upsurp his King?This started as a simple idea from a prompt at Hobbit Kink. What would happen if Fili stole the Arkenstone instead of Bilbo. Always, always he decides against it, convinced that the hobbit would not appreciate the king who so quickly turned on him, so easily belittled him in the wake of all Bilbo had done for them. Surely the halfling would turn him away. It was easier, Thorin decided, to let his pain be his penance. He deserved little else for his treatment of the poor burglar.
“You cannot keep your heart broken forever,” she says after a lengthy silence.
And Thorin, not one to be challenged, answers; “Watch me.”

Then as Erebor starts to rebuild he continues to surprise people with his knowledge and skills. On top of everything else that is occuring there is a dwarf king and a hobbit who might be trying to court one another without the other knowing - while their companions are either helpful or confusingly gleeful.Direct Spoilers for the end of the book though this is an alternate ending.

Post-BoFA: Bilbo has fallen unfortunately and mysteriously ill with no end in sight, and Frodo has become desperate. After he and Samwise figure out what that Bilbo is suffering from a dwarven illness, they call upon the heroes Bilbo had told them about so magnificently; the dwarrows of Erebor! Their cry for help drags old feelings up from the mud and no other than Thorin and co. (minus a few) are sent off to help their little burglar. But can they arrive in time? Or will Bilbo suffer in vain? Movie-verse, just written in more of a book-style. First Bagginshield (in later chapters) and the grateful meddling of dwarves. Angst, drama, romance, oh my!
Mixed Timeline- it's but a few years after the events of the Hobbit when Frodo comes to join Bilbo at Bag End. Frodo was twelve when he arrived but is now around fifteen.
