Kili has been engaged to Dwalin since he was a child, as a measure of protection and family solidarity. Now that the dwarves are retaking Erebor, Kili's social and political clout is growing, which means that his engagement will most likely be reevaluated and changed to better benefit Erebor. The dwarrows have settled in the Blue Mountains after Smaug stole their kingdom. Although Hobbits are happy folk unfortunate circumstances leave the relationship between these to groups somehow chilled and even slightly hostile. But when the dwarrows - who have really not much clue about growing and harvesting - find themselves nearly starved to death, they are forced to reach out for help.
And the thain of the Shire is willing to grant it, under one condition!
