Fili, while apperciating his duty to his family, would really rather attend the college classes he pays for and Bilbo Baggins...

Summary
By bonding with him and sharing the light of his soul, Elrond saves Legolas from certain death by poisoned wounds. The proud ruler of Imladris is not happy to find himself drawing ever closer to falling in true love with his reluctant consort. Legolas, despite his doubts and fears, loses his heart to the Noldorin Lord and conceives a child by him. Events intrude that cast into sharp relief the faint gleam of Elrond's feelings and Legolas despairs to reveal what he has done. The twins arrive to separate the two, despising the bonding they were forced to witness.

In Rivendell, Bilbo tells Frodo the parts of his story which no one else will hear. These parts mostly revolve around a certain King of the Dwarves, and how Bilbo thoroughly broke Hobbit customs, but was very happy in doing so.
"Bilbo interrupted quickly, 'Now don't think I never noticed you watching Master Samwise when you two were younger. I never spoke with you about matters of the heart, Frodo, and for that I am sorry; I was unwise, or perhaps lacking in bravery. For I, out of the many hobbits in the Shire, could have counseled you on your... feelings.'"

Thorin is an uncle and accountant, the first far more important then the second, but both are what make him...him.
His nephews are more like his sons, and Fíli, the eldest, has just learned that he'll probably never regain his sight after an accident has taken it from him.
He's not sure what to do, especially as Fíli seems to be far from accepting of this fact, so Thorin does the only thing he can do.
He focuses on getting Fíli's textbooks on audio.
Unfortunately, the only company that sells the exact ones Fíli needs is Greyhame Audio Books.
Fortunately, a friend from college (Dori Rivers), knows the sole supplier of Greyhame Audio Books.
