Glancing over his shoulder, Weevil realizes Logan is still there. “I think you heard me.”
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?”
Here they go. Weevil faces him. “Do I have to spell it out for you?”
“Apparently.”
“I saw the bruises for myself. After July 4th.”
“Bruises? What are you talking about?” He seems genuinely confused, but acting is in the blood.

This little story just kind of popped into my head when I was wondering what happened to Weevil and his grandmother. Of course, I must relate everything back to Logan. Heh.
The door creaks open, and a boy tiptoes into the room. She can see that it is not Chardo, even though she has been waiting for three days for him to tell her what has become of Eli. Still Chardo doesn’t come, but whoever this is, he is strangely familiar. Squinting into the gloom, Leticia thinks she must be dreaming. Yet sure enough, Logan Echolls quietly approaches. Maybe he has come to evict her from this place, too.“Um…Mrs. Navarro?” He whispers, and hesitates like you would with a dog you think might bite. Her name sounds foreign coming from his mouth. She doesn’t think he’s ever said it before.
She doesn’t answer because she doesn’t know what to say.

Set a few years down the road from high school. Logan hits rock bottom. Keith and Veronica help him back up.
Weevil cuts to the chase. “Logan’s in trouble.”
Veronica half laughs. “What else is new? I thought something was actually wrong.” She doesn’t have to work too hard to affect her uncaring tone. Logan and Veronica have broken up and made up many times. The last parting wasn’t particularly pleasant. Keith didn’t ask for details, but he could guess.
“He got into a fight at the In-N-Out.”
Veronica rolls her eyes. “Must be a day that ends in ‘y’.”
Weevil sighs. “You don’t know, do you?”
Veronica asks what they don’t know, and Keith’s gut clenches. It's always something.
“They found what’s left of his mother’s body.”

She can feel his eyes on her. “I promise.”
