Mike has a secret. He joined the military after he got kicked out of college. He was part of a black ops team and was the intelligence. The sniper. The flyer. The stealth force. He wasn't leader, but he held the team together like glue.
After a successful, but very messy mission, the band was broken up and put on deep reserve. Mike let that chapter of his life go and got back with his childhood friend and lover, Trevor. His life got out of hand. He moved farther down that reservist list.
But now, he was two years into Pearson Hardman. Two years into clean. Two years into trying to win Harvey Specter's attention and he was staring down at an official seal on the large white envelope on his desk. Suddenly, Mike wasn't two years into anything anymore.

2. The first time Harvey noticed it was when Mike was talking to a client and he called her ‘ma’am’. He was helping her out of a car after just opening the door for her. It was very gentlemanly of him, really.
3. The first time Mike wrote the story that started the book series, he was 13 and it had been 5 years since his parents had been killed. His therapist had told him that it would help. It didn't but Mike discovered that writing was his only way to escape the world.
4. Mike literally just woke up with them on his back on morning. It was surprisingly like the time when Trevor had gotten him so drunk he blacked out and woke up with a nipple piercing. That night was supposedly never to be repeated. Ever. He had stumbled into his normally small bathroom and was still slightly asleep so he couldn’t figure out why it seemed so much more cramped. It was when he felt the first feather touch his shoulder in a gentle caress that he actually looked in the mirror and promptly fainted, falling into the bathtub, completely ignorant of the throbbing in the new appendages.

Christmas is approaching, and with it one of Harvey's biggest problems. For all his talents and abilities, he absolutely sucks at finding the right gifts for his family. There have been some near-catastrophes in the past that Harvey's family has made perfectly clear better not happen again. Usually, this is where Donna comes in and saves the day, only this year she goes on strike and insists that Harvey should buy his own presents. Harvey however wouldn't be Harvey if he didn't have a different plan to get himself out of the disaster that is shopping for presents one week before Christmas Eve. He asks Mike to help him out. In hindsight maybe he should have seen that involving his associate was going to have consequences beyond a single day of shopping. Harvey opened a door and things just...happen from there, and definitely not in a way Harvey imagined his Christmas holiday to go.
