Summary
A poison is infecting the land around the Lonely Mountain.
Greenwood has been infected into Mirkwood and Dale’s farm lands can no longer fully support Dale, let alone the Dwarves of Erebor.
In hopes of easing the burden on the land, their eyes turn to the West, where their allies in the Blue Mountains have informed them of a peaceful and fertile land called the Shire.
Thrain sends his best representative, Balin, to the Shire to offer an alliance with the Hobbits that reside there, in hopes of opening a trade route between them.
However, the residents of the Shire are hesitant to offer such an alliance with the Dwarves, when Thráin offers a political marriage between his son, the Crown Prince Thorin Oakenshield, and one of the Shire’s choosing to be a proper representative of the Shire. They have only one question; would Thráin take offense if the Hobbit in question was not…perfect.
His response is 'no', and thus one Bilbo Baggins was sent to Erebor to be married to Heir Apparent Thorin Oakenshield.
But no one really expected Bilbo.

Bilbo Baggins is certainly surprised when he finds the two lost, cold and starving boys in the street, who he quickly takes in to look after. But what surprises him more is the insanity of their family which he's quickly sucked into.

“Thorin Oakenshield,” Gandalf began, and Thorin started a little at the use of that name. He hadn't known that Gandalf was even aware of it. How much had the old man been snooping around? “May I introduce the leader of our company –”
The Dwarf held up his hand to Gandalf in a signal for quiet and gave a short but courteous bow as he held Thorin’s gaze.
“Bilbo Baggins, at your service,” he said and finally stepped inside, a bemused Thorin giving way almost without thought. Whoever this was, if he would dare to quiet Gandalf – well, perhaps this night still had a chance to turn for the better.

The Gold Sickness mounts a heavy toll on the line of Durin. Thorin loses his mind and perhaps his soul to the very thing that fell his grandfather. Fili will not permit his family to go into darkness. With Kili's help, he makes a simple decision that will change the entire fate of Middle Earth. The two brothers face terrors unimagined, separated and desperate. Will fate ever show them mercy? Will they be able to keep Erebor safe from the dark powers that swirl around their souls? Will Thorin return to sanity, or will Kili have to upsurp his King?This started as a simple idea from a prompt at Hobbit Kink. What would happen if Fili stole the Arkenstone instead of Bilbo. I took that sentence and ran with it. I hope you enjoy. This is non beta'd. My second fanfiction and I appreciate constructive criticism. Hope you enjoy.

When Thorin is injured in the Battle of the Five Armies, Bilbo surprises everyone with his healing abilities.
Then as Erebor starts to rebuild he continues to surprise people with his knowledge and skills. On top of everything else that is occuring there is a dwarf king and a hobbit who might be trying to court one another without the other knowing - while their companions are either helpful or confusingly gleeful.Direct Spoilers for the end of the book though this is an alternate ending.

Thorin purposely distances himself from Dís and her family. So when Dís leaves a sleeping Fili with him while she goes to have her second child, Thorin has no idea what to do with the boy. It worsens after Fili wakes up. Thorin is incredibly awkward around Fili, especially when he starts crying. Then, Dwalin, ferocious and mohawked, arrives at the scene and what do you know - he's brilliant with Fili.
And just when Thorin has finally learnt to deal with Fili, Kili comes along.

Summary
After escaping from the Goblin King as well as Azog the Defiler, Ori finds himself returning Dwalin's hammer to him after having wielded it rather well. Each of them admire the other in their own way, but are quite unaware of it. As the barriers start to come down they find that they have a chance at growing and changing their relationship with one another throughout the course of their journey to the Lonely Mountain.
First chapter is rated as general, but this work will be mature.
