It's just her luck that she's on duty at the sight of Project: P.E.G.A.S.U.S. when the war-criminal Loki pops out of a portal from space. It's just her luck that Loki not only takes control of her coworker Clint, but also her.
"And you, my dear, have gift of the mind," he said. "You shall be of use," he said.
When she was offered a job at SHIELD, she knew it would be dangerous. But she didn't sign up for this. To suddenly be the obsession of this maniac so-called god, 'king', that all he did was oppress her and use her.
And she certainly didn't sign up to be his 'queen'.
This was so not part of the contract.
