It starts as a writing exercise for John: "Describe Sherlock Holmes. Not how he looks, not the angles and lines of the man. Describe the man himself." For a man who, supposedly, writes bad poetry, the end result is a beautiful thing. It's a good thing Sherlock finds the journal.
