Summary
“Charles,” Erik says, and if his voice hits a pleading note then who can really blame him, “Charles, it’s me.”
It takes several longer moments before Charles musters up the strength to answer, breath stuttering horribly as he tries to breathe. He’s shaking, entire body trembling.
“Erik,” Charles says, his voice cracking, “Erik, I want to die.”

Summary
When facing Shaw in Miami with the CIA, Charles feels the sudden burst of a mind he thought long dead. When he jumps into the ocean, he finds a confused and desperate Erik, his Submissive who has already been collared and claimed by the man who broke him.

Charles smiles at the pawn in his right hand. "That was when I understood how easy it was. If I operated without limits, I could remake the world. Isn't that the best argument for restraint?"
Looking back, that should have been his first clue. Charles and Erik come to an understanding, from beginning to end.
