summary: a re-write of sansa's story arc, mostly from her pov, exploring how things would have gone if she had a daemon. i have defended this character to so many people, but i still have the desire to give her agency beyond what she is allowed in the text - she has all this inner strength that she doesn't recognize for so long, and i think things would have gone differently for her if she had someone she could talk to and trust completely. plus, also, daemons!
warning: some sections are from joffrey's pov, because even though he's an evil little shit i wanted to give him some voice outside his ridiculously sadistic actions, and lbr, it would have been awful having robert for a father and i wanted to deal with that.

Daemon AU: When he was a child, Erik was forced to split from his daemon. It’s only when he meets Charles that he thinks he might have finally found someone who he could safely leave her with. Missing scenes from canon and a few re-written scenes, plus what happened after. Somewhat loose interpretation of Pullman’s ideas.
Was originally for this prompt, but grew way beyond the bounds of it: Schmidt has recently acquired another metal blade with a too-sharp edge, a blade of intercision, after Erik destroyed the last one (but too late). Erik and his daemon decide to separate on their own terms, rather than Schmidt's. No barren wastelands, no area daemons can't cross -- it's just their willpower against the world.
Warnings: child abuse, violence, homophobia, animal cruelty, supporting character deaths (as in canon)

Even in that confusion of harried passersby and baggage carts, the few daemons bigger than a dog commanded bubbles of free space. Tifa knew the trick; not a lot of people could get away with pretending they hadn't seen Breon in time to avoid brushing against him when his head was about level with theirs and his antlers reached up and flared to the sides like an inside-out umbrella.The cat wasn't as big as Breon was -- she would have reached maybe mid-thigh on Tifa -- but the length of her sinuous body and trailing tail claimed an even longer empty space in the crowd. She stood motionless with her person, forcing people and their daemons to dodge, swearing. Neither of them seemed to notice.

Duo should probably tell Heero that it's okay for a falcon to stare right through people with laser eyes, but for people it doesn't come across as 'paying attention' so much as 'planning the best way to dig out your eyeballs with a spoon.'

From the rest of the battlefield the bird looks gone; Heero's body seems broken beyond repair and the explosion would have hidden her death-sparks either way. Trowa is the only one who sees a small orange-red wing sticking out partway from under Heero's battered body. -
