'Normal people don't.' Jon huffs and sulks, takes a sullen swig of his beer. 'Normal people, after one night stands, are awkward and uncomfortable, which is why they never call again.'
'Well. He did take you out to dinner that Saturday. Besides, Anderson's not really normal.'

Running against Bill fucking O'Reilly for the Presidency hadn't been high on his list of priorities when he'd gotten into the business of skewering politicians. Luckily, Keith had taken care of that for him; he'd gone for months without a vice presidential pick and when he'd called Stephen up and asked him as casually as he'd have asked for dinner or drinks or sharing tickets to a football game, Stephen had been more than slightly stunned. Then he'd been a little flattered. And then, with some coaxing from Jon, who'd always thought Stephen was smarter than Stephen thought himself, he'd accepted.

I'm not sure about the title, but I thought it a damn sight better than "Pretty Heero."Edulcoration - noun form of the verb edulcorate, meaning to free from harshness (as of attitude) or to soften.

I passed this story over many times, because I was uninterested in AUs in general and Pretty Woman in particular. But when I finally succumbed, right away the depth of characterization and the competence of the writing won me over. Duo and Wufei are business partners whose specialty is buying up desperate businesses and gutting them for profit. While they're in Los Angeles courting the Peacecrafts to buy their business, Duo takes a joyride in WuFei's expensive car, and meets Heero, a prostitute, when he asks for directions back to his hotel. He decides to take Heero back with him, and things progress from there. It plays out over time as a very sweet courtship, with wonderfully complex back stories for the characters' AU histories, and a convincingly clever resolution of the corporate plotting.
