Tom Riddle's Diary falls into the hands of Harry Potter when he is still living with the Dursleys, and knows nothing of the magical world. Tom Riddle is kind to Harry, and Harry is happy to have a friend. Even if that friend does and says strange things.
"There are all sorts of spells; hexes and jinxes, curses, charms..." Tom said, "there are spells to find things, to protect you, to hide things, and spells to hurt the people who hurt you."
"Like Abra Kadabra?" Harry asked.
Tom was silent for a minute, then replied with a cautious, and yet seemingly pleased, "Yes. Like Abra Kadabra."

Summary
It has not come as a revelation, as a stunning flash of insight as brilliant as his brother’s lightning. It has crept in around the edges, slipped in while he was not paying attention, settled in his heart like a serpent coiled there to constrict the flow of happiness.
It has come in omissions: in the touches he does not receive, in the words that are not spoken, in the thousand little ways that the things he wants most find their way unerringly to someone else.

Summary
That night, when Kurt has washed his face and brushed his teeth, he calls for his dad to come say goodnight. His dad kneels down next to his bed. “Alright, lemme check.” Kurt sits up and opens his mouth wide while his dad checks first his top and then his bottom teeth. “Good job.”
Kurt closes his mouth. His father's face is still really close. Kurt swallows. “I think... Maybe I'm a little bit a girl,” he blurts out; he's been thinking about it all evening. “Or maybe I'm just a girly boy,” he rephrases at the frown on his dad's face.
“Well,” his dad says, looking at a loss for words, “I guess... I guess you'll figure it out.”
Five times Kurt's love was misunderstood, and one time it wasn't.

The Vulcan ambassador has this kid, all tall and gawky and serious, with shoulders so stiff they might as well be two knobs on a plank of wood. His name's Spock, and he has the dorkiest hairstyle Jim's ever seen. It's like a helmet, smooth and shiny, and Jim wonders if it comes right off, like the plastic hairpieces on those antique Lego sets he used to play with when he was five.
