Johnny Marcone kills a kid and leaves Chicago to lay low in Missouri. He meets Harlene 'Harry' Dresden. Then they get attacked by vicious redcaps, have to outrun a stampede of startled deer, survive meeting her over protective Wizarding Master, and maybe fall in love.
There's also the small matter of the wicked fairy scheme, lurking in the woods...

Summary
In the Directedverse, where the lines of gender are drawn between Dom and Sub, Harry Dresden (sub) is tapped to join the wardens. It's a lousy place to sort out his sexuality and the lingering questions he has about his feelings for John Marcone-- moreso when he gets caught in the crossfire between Donald Morgan (old collar-burning school of sub-rights) and Carlos Ramirez (who thinks that the personal is political and Morgan needs to grow up and join the second wave).
