For all that they were supposed to be allies now, she still couldn't stand his attitude. Every time he spoke, his voice seemed to ring with condescension -- not that he spoke all that much, or that the silence was much of an improvement. Growing up with Sokka, she never would have believed that a boy who didn't say much could ever be more annoying than one who never stopped talking; the exiled Fire Nation prince had proven just how wrong she was.
Katara-POV, set shortly after Zuko joined the group: an awkward late-night conversation is the beginning of an uneasy rapprochement between two mistrustful former enemies. Genfic, although if viewed through optional Zutaran shipping goggles this could be read as the first fumbling steps on the path to something more than gen.

It's almost like James didn't show up, in boxers and a wifebeater, half a bottle of Johnny Walker in one hand, the box of things that "almost killed him" in the other, and start talking away about the construction that went into each of those bombs. It's almost like Sanborn didn't match him slug for slug and start sharing stories about the snipers and triggermen that didn't get away.

But she's also learned that while beauty may be beyond her power to conjure, invisibility is almost childishly easy...
A meditation on prisons without bars, scraps of power stolen by the powerless, and hiding in plain sight. AU, focused on original characters -- canon characters only appear here very briefly and indirectly. Inspired by Ardy1's marvelous Sokka and Zuko genfic Prison Conversations -- Ling-Ling the prison warden's daughter is original to her fic and used here with permission. (While this fic can be read as a standalone A:tLA AU focused on original characters in a backwater Fire Nation colony, I'd recommend reading Prison Conversations first -- it'll make some of the references at the end much clearer.)
