Por entonces, Händel había dado pie ya a su particular guerra contra el compositor Porpora por los teatros y óperas londinenses. Sí: rivalidad operística por los estilos y los cantantes. La sociedad londinense quedó dividida entre los dos compositores. Farinelli era el cantante de Händel y Porpora contaba con la inestimable presencia de Senesino (otro castratto) que abandonó la ópera de Händel para unirse a Porpora, que a su vez era el compositor que había propiciado el debut de Farinelli en Bolonia. Ergo: culebrón.
