Summary
Brad scans him over, slow and systematic, like he's taking inventory of all the things that have changed—the sweep of his longer hair, a new tattoo on his left arm peeking out from beneath the sleeve of his shirt, calluses on his fingers in different places from playing electric seven days a week instead of fixing bum radios and hotwiring humvees for the platoon.

Summary
To the best of my knowledge Nate has never needed a hooker's help to solve a mystery, played pro hockey, taken Holy Orders, suffered a head injury and woken up in 1973, or survived the apocalypse. But I'm sure he'd be good at all of those things if the situation arose.
Major spoilers for Life on Mars (UK) in section four.

Summary
(This is a sidestory in the Gentle Art Of Making Enemies 'verse. Will be completely confusing without reading the others. Set before the beginning of the series, which makes Ray a teenager here).
The last time Ray tried to get sober it had ended with his breakfast-themed puke sprayed from across Brad's shower curtain and up the wall, orange juice and dry white toast in off-yellow lumps sliding down the tiles.
This time it ends with blood sliding down a wall, but it's not Brad's wall, and it's not Ray's blood, so Brad is almost ready to file the experience as “neutral”, give or take some earlier aggravation.

"Damn, son," Ray says, a mournful look on his face as he twists the volume knob all the way down. "You're forcing me to drive at least four thousand miles with you, and I'm not even allowed to croon any John fucking Denver when the mood strikes because of your inexplicable hate, dude."
