Copy of my review: Oh my god, this. This is beautiful and heartwrenching and amazing. The characters and emotions and oh, the plot. The sheer research. I thought I was a Norse mythology geek, but your worldbuilding is amazing and I am in awe and feel lie I need to do more research now. The depth of Asgard, your amazing marriage of actual Norse myth and customs to Marvel, the plot, it was all amazing. And oh, Steve and Tony. *sobs* Tony's pain and helplessness and anger at forgetting everything seriously hurt to read. And Steve, steadfast, loving Steve; they both made me want to cry. And Sif and Loki, and you even incorporated the myth where Loki cuts off Sif's hair and again tied myth to Marvel beautifully, and even though I recognised Tyr from his first appearance I hadn't expected those complications and just. I apologise for my incoherence.
And your writing and descriptions are amazing; you brought the harshness of Asgard's winter plains to life, and Steve's reaction to the ice was so sad. And the mentions of things like the kings before Odin and Heimdall's origin and all the sagas and statues and monuments reminded me of Tolkien and the richness of his world, all the history that he created and referenced (like Gollum mentioning the war that resulted in the marshes, or the Fellowship coming across the statues at the Argonath and that other headless statue much later on; all of that created history and collective memory and layers and depth and bittersweet beauty to his world), and he's my favourite author, so that's how amazing your writing is.
And of course, all your characters, from Pepper and Frigga and Thor and the other Avengers to Sif and Loki and Steve and Tony. ♥ All of them have so many issues and I really love how you fleshed out both Loki and Sif. And I've said it before but I'll say it again, Steve and Tony were beautifully, achingly sad. I can only imagine the pain Steve felt as he watched Tony stare at him mistrustfully, as he tried to make Tony remember and eventually watched him walk away. And before that, in the longhouse, so close and yet so far. The end, with your description of Steve breathing out against Tony's neck and both of them letting down guards, and that kiss and Tony saying Steve's name... I made a little sound and whispered, "Oh my God," just because it was all so heartbreakingly perfect.
Thank you so much for writing this, it must have taken forever and tons of research. Bookmarking it so I can link it to everyone and reread it over and over.
