Gerard’s mother was a little unusual (or as Frank’s mother liked to say, “eccentric”) and had whisked him and his little brother Mikey off on a road trip for the six weeks of summer, to see all sorts of art galleries and bands and the fucking grand canyon, leaving Frank all alone. Frank had definitely missed Gerard.
When he finally got to Gerard’s house Frank was so completely in his own little world that he walked straight past it. He heard someone pointedly clearing their throat behind him and whipped around, only to suck in a giant gulp of air and choke on it.

Gerard walked into the studio, holding the door open as Frank, Mikey, and Ray all walked in and moved around to find their seats. Frank took a stool, Mikey leaned up against the back wall, and Ray hopped up and onto the counter that was to the side. Gerard walked in behind the, closing the door to the chilly Jersey air. Gerard made his way to another stool, picking up an old and slightly beat-up Epiphone Les Paul, the brownish red one with what looks a bit like tiger stripes on it. The finish gleamed under the dim light of the band's homemade studio that they'd worked so hard to build together. As he readjusted the instrument in his lap and put his hands slightly over the neck, keeping the strings muted so they wouldn't make any noise in case he bumped up against them, he looked at each of the men in the room with him who were all looking at him expectantly. Mikey nodded at his brother, giving him the go ahead to start playing
