Summary
Years pass, seasons pass, Fran remains the same, yet her hume friends begin to wither away. Even as Fran struggles to stay with and keep hold of her mortal loved ones for as long as possible, she finds herself fighting a losing battle. She is cupping water in her hands, only for it all to slip through her fingers.

"Pirate engineer," Balthier says, as though she has not spoken. "There's not too many of them about, I never thought to find someone else as interested in the guts as well as the glory. You handled the Strahl's rings well that day out there without even asking what the extra one was for. I hadn't expected a woman to know more than the essentials. I was impressed."
