It starts with Clint, and then from there, every time an Avenger gets hurt on a mission, they seem to show up at Steve’s doorstep. Eventually he stops bothering to lock it (Tony breaking in to his apartment every morning might also have something to do with that.)
Or, a series of non-linear flashbacks and events, illustrating how Steve went from being very alone in the 21st century to having five (maybe even more) roommates (a family) and why Tony decided to build the Avengers mansion.

I've read a summary of the Living Armor comic arc, and was struck by the thought that if the armor had been a bit cleverer, it might actually have had a happy ending. This is an unrepentant mishmash of comic 'verse and movie 'verse. For visuals, think of the actors in the movies & imagine it as occurring after the Avengers, and before Iron Man 3.
My hope is that there will eventually be slashy nookie, so I've tagged it explicit. As this is being written on the fly, it may mutate in any direction.
